Privacy Policy
This policy explains what DeskRewind stores on your computer, what leaves your device, and what happens when you use our website. Effective date: September 24, 2026.
Summary
- App work memory stays local. Activity history, screenshots, journal, tasks, notes, and exports are stored on your Mac or Windows PC. DeskRewind does not upload that content to our servers.
- No account required to track. Core tracking does not need a DeskRewind cloud account.
- Limited online contact. License activation/validation, optional purchase checkout, auto-updates, and this website’s analytics may contact third parties as described below.
Data stored by the desktop app
Depending on the features you use, DeskRewind may store on your device: active/idle/locked time blocks; frontmost app and window titles; optional screenshots for timelapse; click counts, click positions, and mouse travel distance; (on Mac) keystroke counts; journal entries; named tasks and projects; tags; Git analytics (including commit author names and emails) from repositories you select; optional module data such as battery, per-app network traffic, system load, and your Wi-Fi network name; and settings.
What we do not store as typed text: on Mac, keystroke metrics are counts only — DeskRewind does not record which keys you pressed. Typing-test results, if you use that feature, stay local.
You can clear activity and screenshots from Settings, or delete the app’s data folder on disk. You control retention by deleting files or uninstalling.
System permissions
On macOS, features may request Screen Recording (screenshots / window context), Input Monitoring (keystroke and click counts, click positions), Accessibility and Automation of System Events (reading the frontmost window title), and Location Services (only to read the Wi-Fi network name for the environment module). On Windows, screen capture uses OS APIs available to desktop apps. Permissions are granted by you in the operating system and can be revoked there at any time.
When the app goes online
DeskRewind may contact the following when you choose the related feature:
- Lemon Squeezy — when you buy a license on the web or redeem/activate a license key in the app. Typical data includes the license key and a device label (based on your computer’s name) for activation limits. Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy under their own terms and privacy policy.
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — if you install the Mac App Store build and use in-app purchase or restore. Apple processes payment under Apple’s privacy policy; we receive purchase status needed to unlock the app, not your full payment card details.
- GitHub Releases — the direct-download (non–App Store) build may check for updates and download installers from our public GitHub Releases feed.
- Your own AI tools — optional task-import helpers build a prompt on your machine. DeskRewind does not call a model for you; anything you paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar leaves your machine only because you choose to paste it there.
Website (deskrewind.com)
Our marketing site may use Google Analytics (GA4) on deskrewind.com to understand traffic (approximate location, device/browser, pages viewed, and similar analytics events). Analytics are not loaded inside the packaged desktop app.
If we run ads, conversion tags (for example Google Ads, Reddit, or Microsoft Advertising) may load on the website when configured. Those providers process data under their own policies.
If you join a waitlist, your email (and related signup fields) are sent to a Google Apps Script / Sheets workflow we operate so we can notify you about the launch. Do not submit information you do not want us to receive for that purpose.
Retention, sharing, and your choices
Local app data remains until you delete it or remove the app data. License and purchase records are retained by Lemon Squeezy or Apple as needed to provide the product. Waitlist emails are kept until we close the list or you ask us to remove you.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your local work memory for advertising. We may share information with service providers only as needed to operate licensing, payments, hosting, analytics, or to comply with law.
Children
DeskRewind is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the website or app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
